An Introduction to Spiritual Counselling - A Taster Day COURSE DETAILS
Working with energies, boundaries and intuition
The Universe is infinite. Gaia is immense.
Our first number one place of connection is to the self, when we are connected within we can work safely with our clients.
The beauty in the Universe is far larger than our fields of human suffering or confusion and where we choose to put our energy is important. By taking ones awareness outside our self, out into nature and out into the cosmos, we can sense, feel and understand that it is far greater than our human culture and emotion. Our physical body is a flowing energy system and the universe is also a flowing energy system. When we connect to this energy flowing within our bodies and within the universe the experience is good, nurturing and strengthening.
Our body is our temple. We need to be in it.
Therefore we need to hold our awareness in our bodies and be present in our bodies. We need to feel the energy flowing within us, being kinaesthetically aware and kinaesthetically connected to this energy. Any activity or thought that you enjoy will melt your bioenergetic body armour defence and trigger a feel good Endorphine flow or rush inside you.
Smile into your body, Appreciate your body.
Bring your awareness down into your belly. Ground and earth your body in anyway that works for you.
You can always find comfort within yourself. When something beautiful touches you circulate this feeling through your body, absorb it, surrender to it, breath it inside you and circulate it around you. Give yourself kind eyes and place a soft smile in your eyes to guarantee the flow of endorphines, now allow this to circulate through your body. Breathe in this vibration and allow your warm breath to circulate around your body and into you belly. Deepen this experience by feeling down into the Earth, making a connection between your body and the energies of the Earth. Expand your awareness out into the immediate surroundings and then out into the landscape. Let your awareness go upwards into the heavens and the Universe and connect this back into your body as a loop.
Aware .Relaxed. Completely present. Feeling everything.
It is crucial to be grounded in your body. Earth your busy mind by staying focused in your body. How to create a sacred space
A sacred space, public or private, is where the energetic vibration is higher than usual and where healing energies can flow easily. Qualities and terms often expressed when a space is felt to be sacred are: - respect, reverence, special, alive, hushed, intense, precious, creepy, humbling, healing, etc. The more focused and conscious you are the higher the vibration. So it is important to first prepare and steady your thoughts, create inner clarity and purity of mind before stating your intention for the space you are creating. Use mindfulness or meditation to prepare yourself for this.
There are many, many ways and tools to create this space; and each time is unique and personal to you. If something feels right or is important to you then use that method. It is your pure intention and your connection to this intention that is the most important factor.
Begin with cleaning the space, this can be done by : - cleaning with a duster, lighting a candle, burning incense or herbs, clapping in the corners, singing, dancing, toning, playing music or chimes, scattering salt or water, spraying with a crystal essence, opening windows etc.
Create an altar or place objects around the room: - crystals, stones, pictures, water, hanging chimes, flowers, icons, statues etc. Place them where you feel they are needed and where it feels right either by following your own intuition or use a method such as FengShui.
You then intentionally invite in the helpful energies: - angels, guides, totems, symbols, ancestors, archetypes and healing qualities. You can use whatever sources, energies, symbols or methods you choose, ancient or modern, part of the collective memory or something more personal and unique to you. Call them in loudly or silently, with passion or homage, with stillness or dramatic movement. Allow yourself to feel and connect to what you are invoking, Be in the energy.
Complete whatever your intention for the space is and then choose to leave the space open or ask that the space be closed. It is always good practice to thank any healing qualities that you have invoked before ending.
Energy Protection
Your body is a biological creature that needs the care & affection of your mind and your consciousness. To feel safe in life you need to hold yourself connected within your body with a focused awareness. You cannot feel safe in life if your body does not have your own affectionate awareness and kinaesthetic connection.
Every time you feel threatened or knocked off centre don’t react, first turn your attention back to yourself and your core connection. Turn your awareness inside, stay relaxed, stay within and care for yourself. Turn within. Ground yourself. Breath.
Anchor your busy mind by bringing the energy of your mind/ brain down into your body. Anchor this energy down into the Earth. Guide your breath into a calm gentle rhythm. Experience the beauty of your soft breath. Assert your right within this body energy field. This is my energy field; this is my space - Stay out. Boom this message loudly from your belly. Send unconditional love/ open heart/ mantra/ prayer. Persevere and keep it going. This will set up a force field that pushes away bad vibes. Ask for help. By asking we become open to receiving help, say a prayer, a meditation, call on an angel, speak to the Source. The universe responds to our call. Energy can stick to you if you have been attacked. Clean your energy field by moving your energy- stretch, drum, shower, open windows, exercise, change clothes, walk. Use smell, sounds, air or water to cleanse space. If things feel stuck do it over and over again. Ask the universe for help.
Sweet-Track Spiritual Counselling Theory
Psycho-Spiritual Counselling takes the Soul, rather than the Mind, as its starting point of balance. It has an expanded view of life, recognising that the world is a complex mystery and it takes into account belief systems, universal & personal energy systems, intuitive psychic realities, karmic interplay, subconscious and superconscious states of awareness, metaphysical experiences, spiritual theology, spiritual presence and higher-self cosmic connections.
Spiritual Counselling sees that life is innately personal and individuals want to build their own unique, flowing relationship with it, organically and without force. With the Soul being the starting point individuals come from the heart, whilst not forgetting their head, and from this heart space they care for the sacred interdependence of all life. Compassion for self and compassion for others is a core concept for their personal and collective growth. As Spiritual Counselling is holistic there is no separation, no duality between personal or collective responses and reaction, all is intrinsically linked. There is awareness that life experiences become the greatest tool, with the integration of personal pains and personal journey. The aim is for clients to express themselves and their world with intimate wisdom, spiritual awareness and personal authenticity; using integrity and wise use of their spiritual gifts, skills and knowledge.
Spiritual counsellors need a cross cultural awareness and an understanding around spiritual emergency and other issues of spirituality. They recognise, and are committed to, a spiritual journey in their own lives, and the lives of others. By focusing on their core inner connection, creating an open heart connection and a mindfulness state, they create a holding and sacred space for the personal unfoldment of their clients.
In Spiritual Counselling the emphasis is on wholeness, dealing with the whole person, and assisting the client in inner balance and integration of all the dimensions of Self. It is experiential and focuses on the client’s individual experiences and reality, so the counsellor respecting them as unique assumes that the client’s reality is different from their own. As each client is seen as an individual the sessions are non-prescriptive and individually tailored. The counsellor is thus active and creative, responding to the immediate issues brought by the client. The assumption is that human beings are innately motivated towards achieving their highest potential of awareness and fulfilment; the counsellor’s role is to support this and trust the client’s process.
The spiritual journey can be blissful and awakening, but also it can be arduous, frightening and lonely. Anyone can have a spiritual experience, or peak experience, but holistic self-realisation is a different matter. Spiritual development best occurs at the point when the Ego identity is strong enough to take a little disorientation. One’s understanding and meaning of one’s lives depend on the presence of Ego. If the Ego is not strong and does not hold the person in a healthy reality; the spiritual opening then results in fragmentation and crises. This altered State of Consciousness can be catastrophic to the Ego if the individual contacts the lower level of consciousness rather than the higher level of consciousness. A healthy Ego arises from the healing and integration of past traumas and of Self-Realisation/ Self-Awareness.
Spiritual counselling recognises that the split between psychotherapy and spirituality in the West is a cultural, not a natural, phenomenon. It takes as its roots Transpersonal Psychology, Spiritual Psychology, Humanistic Psychology, Psychosynthesis, and Person-Centred Counselling
Having awareness of a spiritual identity; - we are all more than our personalities and our problems.
Faith in Self; - that we have within us the wisdom to make the right choices.
Faith in potential; - that every situation has a potential for growth.
Faith in the journey; - that our lives have meaning.
Faith in Spirit; - that we are truly Spiritual Beings.
